So now I have the rubbish first post out of the way I can awkwardly move on. Todays post is aptly going to be about cycle routes. I regularly cycle down the local canal but never ventured much further before due to busy roads. Recently the local council went to my other half's work to promote cycling to work. He brought back a goodie bag with a reflector, lip balm and oddly enough a hairbrush! but also there were a load of leaflets with different cycle routes to try.
So Bank Holiday Monday I went with my boyfriend to try one of the routes out. It was ten miles and took us around two hours to complete partly because we had to stop and keep checking the map but also we took a couple of wrong turns.
I really do think these cycle maps were a good idea because I saw a part of the area which I had lived in for quite a while but never knew existed. It was also a challenge as there was a mixture of slopes, road and paths but also as it was a circular track it meant not having to go back the same way. Which after a while of constantly going down the same canal routes was a good change.
The only slight annoying thing was trying the route again a few days ago a gate on one of the cycling paths was locked. Therefore we spent ages having to find another way to continue on the route.
Another website we both use a lot for looking at cycle routes is using mapmyride. Beforehand we can plan our routes, see how long these routes are, and then mount the phone onto the bike and use it as a satnav. My other half also uses the speedo on the app.
So this concludes what I am using to plan routes at the moment. What do you use? Sharing is caring!
